Center for Spiritual Living Eastside is a member of the United Church of Religious Science, founded in 1927 by Dr. Ernest Holmes (1887-1960).He referred to the teaching of Religious Science as the Science of Mind and Spirit, and defined it as “a synthesis of the laws of science, the opinions of philosophy, and the revelations of religion applied to human needs and the aspirations of humankind.”

Science of Mind embraces and weaves the essence of the world’s religions and wisdom traditions into a practical spirituality for richer living. It is applied metaphysics and practical mysticism; Spirit-in-action in, through, and as each one of us. What we experience in our lives is a direct result of our thinking, our consciousness. The Science of Mind and Spirit teaches that we can change our thinking and change our lives through alignment with God.

Religious Science has been called the “true religion of the future.”, Jean Houston writes in her forward to the Science of Mind text,  “Holmes seemed to anticipate the world of the new millennium…the tasks that are now ours compel the revolution in consciousness that tells us that we are part of the great unfolding of Spirit in flesh.”   We are called to express much more of ourselves to actualize individual transformation and build spiritual community on a global scale.
